Product description : F4U-1D Corsair
Aircraft model F4U-1D Corsair
This version is not a simple evolution of the F4U-1 and 1A, it is that of the maturity of the aircraft, the first to be able to operate safely on aircraft carriers, why the Corsair had been planned to the originally in 1938.
It is also the first true variant of ground attack capable of carrying two bombs of 500kg under the belly and eight rockets under the wings.
It could also carry two large fuel tanks.
Between April 1944 and February 1945, about 2,800 copies were produced.
In response to Japanese desperate tactics (suicide attacks), the F4U-1D was deployed for the first time in December 1944 on the USS Essex; it was the beginning of its deployment on other aircraft carriers of the US Navy.
From February 1945 he took part in operations against the Japanese islands from aircraft carriers and ground bases.
The F4U-1D is distinguished from the F4U-1A by its new bladed propeller, its new bubble-free reinforced glass, its profiled castor hatches, the absence of a glass under the cockpit and its flame resistant metallic rocket panels when firing.
Its midnight blue livery and large white identification markings give it a radically different look from its predecessors.br/> This kit incorporates all the changes mentioned above.
The model offers various presentation possibilities: in flight (retracted or unfolded), pilot in command or not, pilot standing on the ground (two figures supplied), a detailed engine with or without the cover, with additionally variations of the load carrying capacity.br/> The two chosen decorations offered are among the most colorful worn by F4U-1D.
The first is that of a US Navy VF-84 aircraft embarked on the USS Bunker Hill in February 1945 with white identification arrows and the front of the engine hood painted yellow.
The second is equally archi-known but spectacular, the apparatus of Lt Col.
Yost of the USMC VMF-351 on the USS Gloucester early 1945.br/>

Parts looked very nice, and went on easily. The surface detail effects are shallow, so go easy on the paint, or they will disappear. *
W. JamesThe usual Tamiya level of detail, went together well. Having a larger crew is a nice feature. *
W. JamesUsual good Tamiya quality for a modern vehicle. Kit has been upgraded with multiple colour schemes and markings, although it still has desert tyres *
W. JamesUsual good Tamiya quality, builds up into nice vehicle, even without p/e enhancements. *
W. JamesEverything was perfect! Shipping took longer than normal, but that's not unexpected shipping overseas. A great experience overall. *
