The OV-10 Bronco is a multi-purpose aircraft designed by North American for ground attack , reconnaissance and artillery guidance. It was used during the Vietnam War and in the fight against narcotics in Colombia, where it is still in service. The OV-10 was developed to respond to the US Navy's LARA (Light Armed Reconnaissance Airplane) program, aimed at acquiring an anti-guerrilla fighter aircraft. North American's NA-300 won the competition among nine American manufacturers in August 1964. The aircraft is characterized by its twin-girder structure and is powered by two AiResearch T76 turbines of 668 hp each. The first production aircraft made its maiden flight on August 6, 1967.
