The Rafale is a twin-engine delta-wing multirole fighter developed by the French aircraft manufacturer Dassault Aviation, whose main purpose is to replace the French Air Force's Jaguar series of attack aircraft and the French Navy's F-8 Crusader fighter.
The prototype first flew successfully in April 1986, and the first production version was launched in late 1998 and entered military service.
