Castlevania

Castlevania is an action-adventure video game series created by Konami in 1986. It became famous for its dark, gothic themes, platform gameplay and complex, mysterious story. Since its inception, the series has seen the release of numerous games and has been adapted into an anime and TV series.

Castlevania games generally follow the same formula: the player takes on the role of a vampire hunter, often a member of the Belmont family, who must traverse a series of levels filled with monsters and traps to face a final boss. Each game also features RPG elements, such as item collection, level climbing and character customization.

Here are some of the most popular Castlevania games:

  • Castlevania (1986): the original game that launched the series, in which the player takes on the role of Simon Belmont and must traverse Dracula's castle to defeat him.
  • Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (1997): often considered the best game in the series, Symphony of the Night introduces role-playing elements and an open world to explore. It gave its name and its letters of nobility to a new type of game, the Metroidvania.
  • Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (2010): a rebirth of the series that radically changes the gameplay and story, with a new hero, Gabriel Belmont, and a darker, more complex plot.
  • Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow (2003): a Game Boy Advance game that introduces the soul collecting"" system, in which the player can acquire the powers of defeated enemies.
