Disney villains are usually memorable and captivating, and ever since the Maléfique film series, played by Angeline Jolie, Disney villains have been on a roll! Here are the most popular of them:

  • Ursula, the giant octopus from The Little Mermaid, is an imposing figure with an eccentric and charismatic personality. She uses her magic to manipulate Ariel in exchange for her voice, and her song ""Poor Unfortunate Souls"" is one of the most famous of all time.
  • Scar, Mufasa's evil brother in The Lion King, is another great villain. He plots against his own brother to take control of the kingdom and will do anything to achieve his ends, including killing Mufasa and blaming his son Simba for the crime.
  • Jafar, the Grand Vizier of Agrabah in Aladdin, is another well-known character. He is cunning and ambitious, and uses magic to try to seize absolute power. He is also very clever and knows how to manipulate people to get what he wants.
  • Cruella De Vil, the antagonist of 101 Dalmatians, is famous for her cruelty to animals, which she wants to turn into fur coats. She's also eccentric and wacky, with a distinctive fashion style and exaggerated personality traits.
  • Maleficent, from Sleeping Beauty, is one of Disney's oldest and most iconic villains. She is powerful, ruthless and obsessed with her revenge against Princess Aurora, who has been cursed by her eternal sleep spell.
  • The Queen of Cur, from Alice in Wonderland, is a powerful and angry character, who likes to give orders and demands total submission from her subjects. She is also known for her famous line ""Let their heads be cut off!""
  • Hades is one of Disney's most memorable villains, known for his ebullient temper and sarcastic humour. He is the god of the underworld in Greek mythology and in Disney's ""Hercules"", he is portrayed as a dark and manipulative character who seeks to overthrow the Olympian gods and seize absolute power. He is often depicted with blue flames shooting from his head and hands, reflecting his hellish nature, when he is calm, and red when he is angry.
  • Captain Hook, meanwhile, is one of Peter Pan's main antagonists. He is the leader of the Jolly Roger pirates and has an obsession with Peter Pan, whom he considers his greatest enemy. Although he is cruel and evil-minded, he is also very charismatic and funny, making him a much-loved character. He is often depicted with his famous hook, which he has replaced in place of his lost hand, as well as his big black hat and red coat.
  • Pat Hibular, also known as Peg-Leg Pete in English, is one of the best-known villains in the Mickey Mouse universe. He first appeared in 1925 in Alice Solves the Puzzle, a short film in the Alice Comedies series, and became a recurring villain in the series and then in Oswald the Lucky Rabbit (in cartoons from the Disney and Mintz periods). Pat Hibulaire is often portrayed as a gangster or thief and is also the main antagonist in many Mickey Mouse cartoons since Steamboat Willie. He is known for his prominent nose, closed left eye and peg leg.
  • Ratigan is the main villain in the Disney animated film ""Basil, Private Detective"" released in 1986. He is inspired by the character Moriarty in the Sherlock Holmes stories. Ratigan is an intelligent, manipulative rat whose aim is to become king of the rats and rule London. He is also a great enemy of Basil, the hero of the film. Ratigan is known for his elegance, cunning and viciousness. He is also famous for his song ""The World's Greatest Criminal Mind"".

Each has a distinct personality and different motivations, but all are captivating in their own way.

It's important to note that each of these characters has also inspired numerous derivative products, such as Halloween costumes, figurines, cuddly toys, puzzles, board games, like the very popular Villainous, but also video games and books dedicated to them. Fans love to recreate the costumes of their favourite villains at conventions and costume parties. Disney villains are also often featured in theme parks, such as the famous ""Journey Under the Sea with Ariel"" attraction at Disneyland, which features Ursula as the main character.
