The B1 “Char de Bataille” was the main battle tank used by the French army during World War II. The initial project had been launched in the mid-1920s (many of the technical solutions adopted, such as the large exposed tracks, are indeed typical of this period), but it only began to be deployed in units in the mid-1920s. 1930s. Robust and massive, it was improved in its “bis” version to increase its performance and operational capacity. It was armed with a 47mm turret gun and a 75mm howitzer installed in a casemate at the front of the hull. Considered a good tank for its time, the B1 bis was used in support of infantry divisions rather than in autonomous armored groups which would have been more effective against German Panzer divisions during the French campaign in 1940.
