Product description : SAN FRANCISCO Tram
You will discover a gem of railway modeling with our model kits which will allow you to spend pleasant moments and create models of the cable trams which still run in the streets of San Francisco tramway."Tramways at cable constitute a true symbol of the city of San Francisco tramway The first tramway of this type was put into service in London It was on August 2, 1873 that Andrew Smith Hallidie tested the first cable tramway in the Clay. San Francisco Streetcar. One hundred and thirty-six years later, these attractive vehicles continue to ply the city's streets and are an integral part of local daily life.
The system relies on a cable that is pulled. at a constant speed by a stationary motor all along the route The tram starts moving when a fixing device called adhesion is connected to the cable by pressure The release of this pressure added to the action of the brakes causes the stop. of the vehicle.
There are currently two fleets of cable trams in operation. This is part of the Powell-Hyde and Powell-Mason fleet. The other fleet is that of California Street, which includes tram number 60, which we reproduce in our model. The latter was manufactured in 1998 by MUNI (San Francisco Municipal Railway) and entered service in 2002.
This vehicle is based on the original model built in 1906 by John Hammond & Company for the California Street Cable Railroad Company. After the earthquake and fire of April 1906, it was again manufactured in the renovated Hammond workshops under number 16 before being assigned number 60 by MUNI in 1957. A new version retaining the roof and the original seats saw the light of day in 1968-69 in the MUNI Elkton workshops."
You will see that little by little you will be able to reproduce a model including all the details of the original model. We invite you to be captivated and create spaces for creative leisure in which this wonderful model of the San Francisco cable car will give you a lot of pleasure.
