PIRATES AND BUCCANNERS

In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the rise and death of piracy will leave for the history of legends of fabulous treasures and great exploits. Pirates and buccaneers are remembered as the "kings of the sea."

Geographically their operations were primarily in the Caribbean, the trade route between America and Europe.

While pirates robbed merchant ships and assaulted coastal towns to enrich themselves, buccaneers were engaged in smuggling, capturing small merchants and trading slaves.
