The San Martín galleon was built in Portugal and became the property of Spain in 1580.
It was the flagship of the Spanish Armada. On March 22, 1588, Don Alonso Pérez de Guzman, Duke of Medina-Sidonia, admiral of the Invincible Armada, displayed his ensign on the mainmast of the galleon. It is one of the ships that managed to escape the storms and the artillery of the English fleet.
