The Bateaux Endeavor was built in June 1764 by Thomas Fishburn under the name by Earl Of Pembroke. It weighed 368 tonnes and had a length of 29 m, a keel of 24.79 m and a maximum width of 8.89 m. It featured a rounded bow and a flat stern with cross-shaped rigging. This ship was used to transport coal. She was registered on 5 April 1768 as a ship of the Royal Navy under the name Bateaux Endeavor and given the mission to undertake voyages of exploration. He was prepared for this journey in the shipyards of Deptford, near London, where decks, cabins and tanks were fitted out to accommodate the personnel - officers, scientists, service personnel and sailors - who represented the total 94 men. The Endeavor sailed around the world under the command of Captain James Cook. He left Plymouth (England) on August 8, 1768, and returned to London on July 13, 1771. The mission of this expedition was to observe the passage of the planet Venus between the earth and the sun. It made it possible to estimate the distance between the stars and to use this as a measurement to calculate the parameters of the universe.

The Endeavor boats were then used by the Royal Navy during the war of American Independence and was ultimately scuttled with a dozen other ships off the coast of Newport, Rhode Island, in 1778.
