The story goes that the shadows of the inmates, the ship and its crew are doomed to wander the oceans around the world for eternity without ever reaching land, all because of the captain. Navigating fatal waters is a fateful decision. The legend has inspired many playwrights, poets and painters. It has also become a popular part of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise in which the ship is known as the Dutchman and sails under the command of the fictional Captain Davy Jones.
