The Montañés represents the highest degree of perfection ever achieved by Spanish naval architecture thanks to with which our ships were able to measure themselves against other navies of the world.

The figurehead displayed by this ship was not the royal lion, but a Montañés as a thank you for the economic contribution made by the mountaineers in the construction of the ship.

The boat was launched on May 14, 1794 in Ferrol. It is reported that it had extraordinary properties when sailing with bowline, reach or astern, and that it kept its batteries out of the water better than any other ship.

He took part in several missions including that of Trafalgar where he brought an artillery of 76 cannons and 4 carronades with shells placed on the poop. It sank on March 6, 1810, in front of the bay of Cádiz, due to a violent storm.
